High Court Orders Samidoh to Surrender Passport After Blocking Arrest in Desertion Case

The High Court has granted Samidoh bail and barred his arrest over desertion charges but ordered him to deposit his passport as legal proceedings continue.

The High Court of Kenya has directed Mugithi artist and Administration Police officer Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, to surrender his passport to the court. This comes alongside the court’s decision to block his arrest and grant him KSh 200,000 anticipatory bail, related to accusations of deserting his duty post at the Anti‑Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) in Gilgil

Samidoh is accused of failing to report to duty after official leave expired on May 27, 2025. Despite being transferred to ASTU, his absence led to a formal desertion notice, effective June 6, as outlined under Section 94 of the National Police Service Act

In his defense, Samidoh produced an official travel clearance letter dated April 25, 2025, authorizing his trip to the United States from May 20 to June 9, 2025 for a private visit. He also performed at diaspora events in Seattle during this period

Despite the clearance, police maintained that he failed to resume duty after leave, prompting disciplinary action including removal from payroll and being declared a deserter by NPS

The court ruling ensures Samidoh will not be arrested while abroad. However, the passport surrender is a clause of his bail terms and restricts his international movement during these proceedings
