A tragic love triangle in Kitengela, Kajiado County, has left one police officer dead and two people—including a senior officer—behind bars.
The incident occurred on the night of Thursday, August 7, 2025, when Police Constable Manasseh Ithiru of Kitengela Police Station visited his girlfriend, 27-year-old Irene Wavinya Nzioka, at her residence in Geoffrey Flats along Deliverance Road.
According to police reports, not long after Ithiru arrived, Sergeant Abubakar Said from CIPU EPZ Camp Athi River—also romantically involved with Irene—showed up unexpectedly. The two officers confronted each other inside the fourth-floor apartment.
Investigators say the altercation quickly escalated, with Sergeant Said allegedly overpowering Ithiru before throwing him off the balcony. Ithiru landed in the parking lot below, sustaining fatal head injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
DCI and CSI officers processed the scene before transferring the body to Shalom Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Both Sergeant Said and Irene Wavinya were arrested and are in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities have yet to confirm the charges, but sources indicate that murder and accessory-to-murder charges are under consideration.
The National Police Service has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
This case has drawn national attention, not only for the shocking circumstances but also for the fact that both the victim and the suspect were serving officers sworn to uphold the law. Investigations are ongoing, and more details are expected in the coming days.
