President Ruto has donated KSh 1 million to the family of late comedian KK Mwenyewe, offering support ahead of his burial and honoring the star’s impact on Kenya’s comedy scene.

President William Ruto has extended his condolences and financial support to the family of late comedian KK Mwenyewe by donating KSh 1 million toward funeral expenses. The donation was delivered through Dennis Itumbi, the President’s digital strategist, during a candlelight memorial held at Blue Springs Hotel on July 21.

Ruto’s contribution came alongside several other political figures and friends of the late content creator:

  • Susan Kihika (Nakuru Governor) – KSh 200,000
  • Kimani Ichung’wah (MP) – KSh 100,000
  • Mburu Kahangara (Lari MP) – KSh 100,000
  • Dennis Itumbi (personal donation) – KSh 100,000

In total, over KSh 1.5 million was raised—surpassing the initial KSh 1.2 million target needed for burial and related arrangements. Remembering KK Mwenyewe

Born Zakaria Kariuki, KK Mwenyewe was celebrated for his viral skits, especially his comedic impersonations of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua. His online presence was significant, boasting over 1.1 million TikTok followers and 412,000 followers on Facebook.

KK passed away on July 15 after battling a prolonged stomach ailment. He was receiving treatment at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital before his death. His funeral is scheduled for July 23 in Gathiroini, Lari, Kiambu County.

President Ruto’s donation has been praised as a compassionate gesture that underscores the importance of Kenya’s creative economy. It also sheds light on the need to offer long-term support and recognition for artists and online content creators, many of whom entertain and educate millions but often lack formal backing.
