Kennedy Kalombotole, the prime suspect in the murder of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), is expected to be arraigned at the Kibra Law Courts on Wednesday, July 24, 2025. The suspect is accused of killing two male patients — Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni in February and Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17 — both of whom were found dead in their hospital beds under mysterious circumstances.

According to investigators, crucial evidence including blood-stained bedsheets, bloody footprints matching slippers found near the scene, and a knife wrapped in gloves has been collected and submitted for forensic analysis. Authorities are also conducting DNA testing and a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death and link the suspect to the crimes.
The court has ordered Kenyatta National Hospital and Nairobi Women’s Hospital to submit Kalombotole’s complete medical records, which may play a key role in determining whether the suspect should remain in hospital care or be transferred to a correctional facility. Prosecutors are pushing for a 21-day detention period to allow for mental health assessments and to prevent any possible interference with ongoing investigations.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is finalizing witness statements and forensic reports ahead of the trial. Magistrate Daisy Mutahi is expected to rule on whether Kalombotole will stay in police custody or be held under medical supervision, depending on his health condition.
The case has sparked public concern, with many Kenyans demanding answers on how such violent acts could occur within the country’s top referral hospital. Authorities continue to assure the public that investigations will be thorough and justice will be served.
