Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has been tapped to spearhead the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) campaign for the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election. His leadership marks a strategic effort by the ruling party to retain the seat following the death of MP Malulu Injendi in February 2025 .

Having addressed over 100 clan chairpersons and elders from the dominant Kabras clans, Mudavadi declared himself a “patron” for Malava until a new MP is elected. He pledged to guide consultations with youth, religious leaders, farmers, businesspeople, and women to identify a candidate who truly reflects the constituency’s aspirations
He emphasized continuity and unity, urging residents to build on the late MP’s development agenda. Mudavadi also cautioned against divisive tendencies, urging the community not to allow clan loyalty to overshadow merit in candidate selection .
The campaign unfolds amid a crowded field of over thirty aspirants, including key figures like Ryan Injendi (late MP’s son), Seth Panyako, and Edgar Busiega, representing various parties such as DAP‑K and Ford Kenya. UDA faces the challenge of consolidating support in a region historically aligned with ANC and resistant to Ruto-aligned politics .
Mudavadi’s direct involvement aims to leverage his political influence and grassroots credibility to steer UDA through a highly contested terrain and potentially reshape Western Kenya’s political dynamics
