President William Ruto has traveled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent Kenya at the Second United Nations Food Systems Summit Stocktake (UNFSS+4), running from July 27 to 29, 2025. The summit, co-hosted by Ethiopia and Italy, convenes global leaders to assess progress and chart the next phase of food system transformation worldwide.

At the summit, Ruto will deliver Kenya’s national statement, reaffirming the country’s dedication to building sustainable and climate-resilient food systems. He is expected to highlight how these reforms are central to economic development and agricultural adaptation to climate change.
Besides plenary sessions, the President will engage in high-level thematic meetings with state leaders, development agencies, and private sector stakeholders. These discussions aim to uncover practical pathways to accelerate progress in food security, sustainable agriculture, and inclusive growth.
On the summit’s sidelines, President Ruto is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with prominent leaders including Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, and African Union Commission Chairperson Mahamoud Ali Youssouf. Conversations will focus on enhancing regional ties, agricultural cooperation, climate action, and multilateral diplomacy.
This summit marks a critical moment in global efforts to tackle food insecurity, especially amid intensifying climate shocks across Africa. Kenya, under Ruto’s leadership, is positioning itself as a regional champion of food systems reform aligned with goals like the Kampala Declaration and CAADP implementation.
