The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has announced that it is facing a financial crisis, citing a shortage of funds to support new and continuing students. The agency revealed that billions of shillings remain unpaid by past beneficiaries, leaving thousands of students at risk of missing out on essential financial aid.
To recover the outstanding loans, HELB is now seeking access to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) database to trace loan defaulters. By tracking their tax records and income details, HELB hopes to compel repayment and ease its financial burden.
